Ribbons Winter 2016

STUPOR

no one
calling my name
this morning
a cup of water stays cold
in the microwave

preparations
for the memorial
the chrysanthemums
quietly wither
on the side

an avalanche
of memories snowballing
into grief
the stories behind
a box of receipts

every now and then
the flicker of a firefly . . .
still in my hand
all of you I need
to let go

not accepting
what goodbye really means
my breath lingers
in every shape and sound
of spring dusk

Sonic Boom Issue 2 (tanka)

icicles
stabbing the pavement—
I tell him
his cancer is back
as if I feel nothing

***

daffodils
brim over the edges
of my dream . . .
how I long to know
if he's waiting for me

***

drowning
my fears
in the sound
of the garbage disposal—
death rattle

A Few Poems in Seize the Poem Anthology

Here are the poems accepted by Caroline Skanne for the Seize the Poem Anthology. It was sometime in March that she asked me if she could include this in her project. So far, I haven't heard any publication....

a white butterfly
carries my prayer . . .
cancer remission

each moment with you sea asters

I hold my breath
between these words
I long to hear
the soft, hushed sound
of a violin

watching
a seagull glide against
the overcast sky . . .
I forget to tell the driver
to turn right
