(133rd Haiga Contest, August 2015)
Make the universe your companion, always bearing in mind the true nature of things—mountains and rivers, trees and grasses, and humanity—and enjoy the falling blossoms and the scattering leaves. ~Bashō

Dream
I thought I was going to take a break from The Collaborative Photo-Haiku Project since I've decided to accept the daily haiku challenge at NaHaiWrimo, but I ended up visiting the website again. I have to admit it has been a delightful morning routine- finding out what stunning photo awaits me. Once again, here I am not being able to resist writing my own haiku.

It's a Tie!
It's a tie between me, Kathy Uyen Nguyen, and Sandi Pray for the month of July! Wow! I'm so honored to receive the same number of votes as these gifted poets. Unfortunately, only one may be the recipient of Tif Holmes' photo. A drawing was held and Kathy turned out to be the winner. She'll be receiving an 11 x 14 (unframed) print of a photo with her haiku captioned below it. Congratulations, Kathy! :-)
This is my haiku which could have won a free print from The Collaborative Haiku Project

winter night
a string of memories
opening past wounds
I don't feel bad that Tif isn't sending me a copy of this beautiful photo. I wrote a sad haiku, anyway. Yes, it blends perfectly with the photo, but I'd rather have a more cheerful haiga hanging on my wall like the one I received from Tif when I first won in March.
Kathy and Sandi haiku wrote such lovely haiku. They were my favorites, actually. Here they are below.

I can imagine
the sound of your footsteps
till autumn leaves fall
just promise not to leave me

quenching my thirst
with your embrace
I need nothing else
but your love
(Filipino translation)
init sa tag-araw
napapawi ang aking uhaw
ng iyong mga yakap
wala na akong kailangan pa
kundi ang iyong pagmamahal
