Ribbons Journal (Fall 2015)

Are you enjoying every single page of Ribbons (Fall 2015)? I hope you haven't skipped my tanka sequence, "Last Sip," on page 45. For those who don't have a copy, here it is.

Last Sip

parch lips . . .
for you I draw a well
of memories
from steel drum music
to the sound of waves

a sparrow's last sip
from the birdbath . . .
on your birthday
how I didn't want to believe
in your goodbyes

my thoughts
spinning counterclockwise
the silence
after I decide to turn off
the oxygen machine

streaks of foam
tail away from the reef . . .
how I remember
your wishes for me
when you're gone

Swimming in Lines of Haiku (I Quote, You 'Ku)

I tried my best to participate so here are a few tanka for Kirsten Cliff's quote for the day.

plucking a petal
from a budding rose . . .
I cannot help
wanting him more
too early

http://kirstencliffwrites.blogspot.com/2013/07/i-quote-you-ku-2.html

a bluejay drinks again
from an empty birdbath...
I open your closet
one more time to make sure
I remember missing you

http://kirstencliffwrites.blogspot.com/2013/07/i-quote-you-ku-day-3.html

all the beads
we used to string together
for someone else . . .
every minutes counts
in the shades of sunset

http://kirstencliffwrites.blogspot.com/2013/07/i-quote-you-ku-day-5.html

dishes still
piled up in the sink . . .
I now have
more time in my hands
to miss you

after brain surgery
will he remember
how much he loves me . . .
the first thing he asks for
are ice chips

My Lucky Number

It seems like 3 is my lucky number. After recently winning third place in the Svetlana Marisova Memorial Kukai, I took third place in another contest. Both were totally unexpected.
Thanks to all my fellow haiku poets for the votes!

another splash
