The 24th Mainichi Haiku Contest (Honorable Mention)

I have been feeling crappy after getting my vaccine, but this wonderful surprise made my day! My haiku received honorable mention in the 24th Mainichi Haiku Contest. Congratulations to al the winners! Pragya Vishnoi (first prize) and Robert Kania(second prize). International Haiku Contest by the Haiku Society of Constanta

 I just recently received a certificate and two books from the Haiku Society of Constanta.

It was actually a wonderful post-birthday gift! My poem received an HONORABLE MENTION among the 174 entries in the International Haiku Contest of Constanta, Romania. Here's the photo that inspired my haiku - a visit to the Point Loma Lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego.

2018 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF) Haiku Invitational

This was totally unexpected! I got an email early September that my haiku had been selected as Best in the USA category. I had submitted a few times to the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival haiku contest in the past, but I had just won honorable mention last year. This year I am one of the 6 top winners! Thank you to the organizers and judges and congratulations to all the winners. 

I'm so thrilled to find out that the top poems in six main categories (Vancouver, BC, Canada, United States, International and Youth) will receive celebrity readings and be featured in creative ways during the 2018 festival some which include: publication in The Bulletin magazine, Haiku Canada newsletter, an online publication in the newsletter of the Haiku Society of America, printing in a chapbook hand-folded and bound by Victoria-based Leaf Press and publication on the VCBF website. Winning poems will be read by Christopher Gaze at the VSO’s Tea & Trumpets Concert, at our media-kickoff event, Cherry Jam Downtown concert by media celebrity emcee and celebrated at Sakura Days Japan Fair  Leith Wheeler Haiku House.

Wild Plum Haiku Contest 2018

     I forgot that I sent an entry to the Wild Plum Haiku Contest so it was a wonderful surprise to wake up this morning to find out on Facebook that my haiku has received an honorable mention. This contest received 312 entries from 41 countries. I am so honored and grateful! Congratulations to all the winners! You can read all the winning poems here. 

Scrytpic Magazine's First Annual Halloween Contest

Staying up until the wee hours of the morning to create this one was worth it! My very first mixed media art with face painting won the 3rd place in Scryptic's First  Annual Halloween Contest! Follow the link to find out all the winners and to read the judges' commentaries.

6th Matsuyama Photo Haiku Contest

    What a huge surprise! My haiku received an honorable mention in the 6th Matsuyama Photo Haiku Contest! There was a total of 1,063 entries from 32 countries.

     This is my second time to receive a recognition from the Matsuyama Photo Haiku Contest. The first was in 2012 and that time they sent me a congratulations letter, souvenir booklet of all the winners and honorable mentions, and two cute daruma dolls. I wonder if I will be receiving a surprise package from them soon.

Golden Haiku Contest 2017

     Exciting news! My one and only poem submitted to the Golden Haiku 2017 in Washington D.C. is one of the runners up! There were more than 1,200 entries to the contest. My poem will be among the almost 100 haiku that will grace the sidewalks of the Golden Triangle neighborhood near the White House. To be exact, according to Ted Jutras (Director of Placemaking and Activation), the sign with my poem is on the north side of L St, between Connecticut Ave and 18^th Street.

     I wish I live close by so I could take a photo. A poet friend has promised to try to take a picture of it while he is in search of his poem. Fingers crossed!

Vladimir Devide Haiku Award 2015

     In March, I was happily surprised to find out through Facebook that my poem was commended by the judges. This haiku had been submitted to a few contests, but it had never been recognized.

 

 

 

 

     I just found out today while checking out the link that there is a video announcement of the contest winner. It was so good to hear all the poems being read. Mine was the first one! Click here to view the video and to read all the winners on the website. 

      

Diogen Autumn & Winter Contest 2013 for Haiku, Senryu, Tanka, and Haiga

     The results of the Diogen Winter Haiku Contest 2013 may be viewed here, except for the tanka category. I wasn't surprised not to grab a place in the haiku category because the haiku poems I submitted weren't really that good. I'm hoping that at least one of my gut-wrenching tanka poems would be a winner. 
     As I'm eagerly waiting for the complete results, I just remembered that I haven't posted the good news about me winning 2nd place for the tanka category in the Diogen Autumn Contest 2013.

     I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'd be posting another certificate in the following days for the winter contest.
     By the way, as I was browsing the results of the autumn contest, I found out that another of my tanka poems was selected.
