Fireflies' Light, Issue 23

Here are my poems published in Fireflies' Light:

SENRYU

biscuit crumbs

between the couch cushions . . .

forgotten lies

sour milk

too late to say

I'm sorry

honeymoon

releasing the butterfly

in my obi

park walk

in Valentine t-shirts

my dog and I

HAIKU

before sundown

the fiery glow

of a waterfall

cherry blossoms

the way my dog and I

glance at each other

summer night

swaying to the beat

of calabash maracas

TANKA

cherry petals

float down the river . . .

how I wish

I could tell you

one more time

between seedlings

and unfolding petals . . .

all the waiting

sweetened by the songs

of a nightingale

CHERITA

the last fallen leaf

balances desperately

on another branch

like my final words

hanging recklessly

with yours

enfolding myself

with the scent of wildflowers

I stay in this moment

where everything

sounds better

in my head

IAFOR Vladimir Devide Haiku Award 2017

What a way to wake up this morning! I found out via Facebook that my haiku has received a commendation in this year's IAFOR Vladimir Devide Haiku Award. There were more than 800 submissions from 64 countries. Congratulations to all the winners! To read the results, head over to this link.

Two years ago in the same contest, my haiku was commended by the judges. It's great to know that this year I made it to the "commended" list again.

Golden Haiku Contest 2017

Exciting news! My one and only poem submitted to the Golden Haiku 2017 in Washington D.C. is one of the runners up! There were more than 1,200 entries to the contest. My poem will be among the almost 100 haiku that will grace the sidewalks of the Golden Triangle neighborhood near the White House. To be exact, according to Ted Jutras (Director of Placemaking and Activation), the sign with my poem is on the north side of L St, between Connecticut Ave and 18th Street.
I wish I live close by so I could take a photo. A poet friend has promised to try to take a picture of it while he is in search of his poem. Fingers crossed!
     I encourage you to
visit the website, goldentriangledc.com/haiku, to see the various winners.
Here's my poem, inspired by my puppy named Haiku :-)
