9th World Haiku Conference in Parma, Italy
I was happy and honored when I found out that my haiga was being exhibited at the 9th World Haiku Association Conference in Parma, Italy from Sept. 8-10. My haiga
that Kuniharu Shimizu selected was the one that made it to the finals in the 154th World Haiga Contest in June.

I'm so fortunate that there's another photographer in the family, a much better one than me. My brother was generous enough to give me a copy of this breathtaking photo. As soon as I saw it published in WHA, I was eager to post it on Facebook and share it to him. I'm sure he's as ecstatic as I am and that he's also looking forward to seeing more of our works in the near future.
Manila bay, a natural port found in the Philippines, is famous for its boardwalk where you can view one of the most awe-inspiring sunsets in the world.
Kuniharu Shimizu's comment: "Photograph with mood and goes well with haiku."

Spring Rain

Kuniharu Shimizu created another impressive artwork for my haiku. To explain this haiga, this is what he wrote in his blog--
According to Wikipedia, the leaf I used here is "Acer palmatum, called Japanese Maple or Smooth Japanese Maple (Japanese: irohamomiji) is a species of woody plant native to Japan, Nort h Korea, South Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, and southeast Russia.
Momiji leaves change color; from Green to orange and to red. Spacious canopy they provide is what I like the most. Each leaf is small and always reminds me of child's hand, hence I used it in this haiga.
I couldn't have thought of a better image that would go with my "spring rain" haiku. He created it perfectly! As you can see here in my blog, I love how fall leaves turn into different colors. I also love how leaves fall softly to the ground. Though I haven't seen a momiji leaf in real life, I can hear the wind chime. I can feel the breeze. I can see and hear the momiji leaf brushing the wind chime like a child's hand.

Snowman
What a joyous way to start the New Year! The award-winning haiku poet and haiga artist, Kuniharu Shimizu, created a delightful haiga for my snowman haiku!
You can view this here and while you're there on his blog, enjoy his collection of illustrated haiku. Kuniharu posts one haiga each day. The haiga is a collaborative effort between him and other haiku poets from different parts of the world.
He is currently one of the advisors to The World Haiku Association and the judge of the WHA Monthly Haiga Contest. I'm hoping he'll pick my "maple leaf" haiga for this month's haiga contest. Everyone is welcome to submit one haiga by the 20th of each month. The submission guidelines may be found here.
