2013 Open Mic

At the last day of 2012, the December Haiku Share on Prose Posies had come to an end. I've been missing the daily experience, but I just found out the good news. Cara Holman has presented a new challenge for this year - 2013 Open Mic. It's still the December Haiku Share, but on a monthly basis rather than daily. Yay!!! Click here to find out the basic ground rules.
In case you missed the last 10 days of the December Haiku Share, below are my daily offerings. Click a particular day to see the full post.

December Haiku Share (Part II)

For the past ten days, I've been enjoying the December Haiku Share on Prose Posies not only because I've been sharing my work, but also because I've been reading a variety of stunning haiku from talented poets.
Here are my posts from Day 11-20. Click a specific day to see all the haiku shared in response to Cara Holman's daily post.

On its 11th day, The December Haiku Share on Cara Holman's blog Prose Posies is still going strong! A lot of stunning haiku have been shared and more poets have been participating. Why don't you join us, too? If you don't want to be stressed out about writing a new haiku each day, you can just share any haiku from your own archives. Click here to read about this month long haiku challenge.
Below are the haiku and haiga that I've shared for the past ten days. Click a specific day to read all the haiku posted by other poets in response to Cara's haiku for the day.

Haiku Sharing on Prose Posies

This December, Cara Holman is inviting us to share our own haiku every day on her blog, Prose Posies. It may be published or unpublished as long as it is related in any way to her haiku post.
For her first post, this is what she shared:

a stranger in the crowd
that looks like you
blue mist

(Shiki Kigo Kukai, November 2012)

     My response:

blossoms in her hand
he smiles without knowing
her name

Sketchbook (January/February 29, 2012: Vol. 7, No.1)

My haiku doesn't convey any longing or loneliness like hers, but it also talks about a stranger. The two haiku matches somehow. Just like Cara said, it's like playing the card game of Crazy Eights. So easy and fun, isn't it? Go ahead and read all the haiku responses for the first post here. I'm sure you wouldn't want to miss it.

A Birthday Renku

I played along with other poets to celebrate Cara Holman's birthday. This is her birthday renku, reblogged from Prose Posies

sultry afternoon
the plaintive cries
of fledgling hawks

crazed evening traffic
dragonfly bravura

pigeons huddle
in the park bandstand
a midnight rain

I snag and release
a frog from the house

daytime buzz -
the mosquito i slapped
on my arm

letter from Rome—
am I liable?

monsoon wind
what would complement
this traffic jam

Fog slips over the hilltops
tickling a lone mockingbird.

wet with dew
wildflowers fold into themselves
a whispered lullaby

tuning out
yesterday and tomorrow

They flew from their nest
over summer’s fresh blooms
a lofty call

on my moonlit kitchen
drips of watermelon juice

almost midnight
should I stay or should I leave
lullaby of a cricket

alone again
in the feathered nest

early birdsong
facing the same direction
all four horses

in the meadow
with one last laugh

it’s the new born child
who gets the last laugh
severe drought

a dragonfly nestles
in the clown’s wig

light reflected
off the pond
the sounds clouds make

the right word grasped
in willow fragments

pillow talk
the early morning chatter
between nests

on which I scribe each night
the non-visual geometry

silence, I speak…
the unspoken language
of the unkai

late for work again
the faded-jeans sky

may birthday candles
light the path to happiness…
live a full life

firelight flickers
on the mountainside

bee-wearing (con)tests the many diverse views among (our) haijin

morning sunshine
birthday wishes across the web
