International Haiku Contest by the Haiku Society of Constanta

 I just recently received a certificate and two books from the Haiku Society of Constanta. 

Here is my winning poem.

autumn sky

our laughter spirals down

the lighthouse stairs

It was actually a wonderful post-birthday gift! My poem received an HONORABLE MENTION among the 174 entries in the International Haiku Contest of Constanta, Romania. Here's the photo that inspired my haiku - a visit to the Point Loma Lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego.

I never heard of artist trading cards until I discovered this journal was going publish an ATC gallery show for their next issue. I was excited about the idea of trying something new so I tried my best to find time to submit. Luckily, 4 of my mini artwork were accepted!

Tears of a Child

where are the memories
of mother loving me?
tiny spiders
crawl out from the cracks
of her headstone

the many times
I rolled down the stairs
as a child
her spankings hurt
more than any fall

moth wings quiver
with the slightest wind
all the things
I wish I could have done
without fear

growing up
her photos followed  me
around the room
an artificial flower arrangement
stuck in an old vase

a tree branches out
with its blossoms and fruits
I didn’t know
what I wanted to be
but to be loved

you ask me why
now I write these stories
for children. . .
tears rolling down
the doll’s face are mine
